PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is urging all Muslims to strengthen their faith and unity as they usher in the Islamic new year.
In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin called on Muslims, especially in Selangor, to instil self-improvement and a deeper connection with God, highlighting Maal Hijrah as a symbol of faith, sacrifice and unity.
"The new year is a time for reflection. We must ask ourselves if we have been just, sincere and honest in our roles as God's servants," said the Sultan, encouraging Muslims to renew their commitment to compassion and brotherhood.
Addressing global unrest, Sultan Sharafuddin urged an end to division over opposing views.
"Islam teaches us that strength comes from unity, not division," the Sultan said, cautioning against hatred and revenge that threaten harmony.
His Royal Highness also expressed concern about the rise in defamatory statements and insults, which contradict Islamic teachings.
"Guard your tongue – it can be sharper than a sword," he said.
The Sultan also cautioned against arrogance, emphasising humility as true strength before God.
"Do not let arrogance mar sincerity in our struggles," said Sultan Sharafuddin.
