KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from 38 individuals in connection with two separate shooting incidents in the capital this month, as investigations continue to identify the suspects involved.
For the June 17 shooting which took place outside the lobby of a shopping complex in Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras, 19 individuals have given their statements to assist in the probe so far.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Aidil Bolhassan said police are still in the process of identifying those responsible and no arrests have been made yet.
The incident involved a group of men wearing black ski masks and travelling in a multi-purpose vehicle. Two local men in their 40s were shot during the attack, which occurred at around 12.48am.
In a separate case, Brickfields OCPD ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said police have also recorded statements from another 19 individuals in relation to a shooting outside a restaurant in Brickfields on June 13.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects involved, he added.
“Five individuals who were previously detained have been released on bail after their statements were recorded,” he added.
Police have not ruled out the possibility that both shootings are linked to organised crime.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad previously said investigations suggest that both incidents may be connected to secret societies.
The June 13 shooting in Brickfields resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others. The victims were reportedly shot at close range by one of two assailants on a motorcycle in front of the restaurant.
