Umno to consider resolution seeking Hishammuddin’s reinstatement

BATU PAHAT: Umno will consider all resolutions submitted by its divisions, including the one calling for the reinstatement of Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, says party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He said the resolution, raised by the Sembrong division, was just one among many being put forward during the party’s ongoing delegates meetings nationwide.

"Every division typically submits resolutions during its meeting, and the one from Sembrong is among those proposed by divisions across the country.

"It's just one resolution from one division, out of all the divisions in Malaysia," he told reporters after attending the Batu Pahat Umno delegates meeting at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim on Sunday (June 22).

Asked if Hishammuddin had personally appealed to be reinstated, Mohamed Khaled declined to confirm.

"Right now, there's a resolution, and we will consider it. Whether the individual concerned has submitted an appeal, I'm not getting into that," he said.

On Saturday (June 21), the Sembrong Umno division reportedly passed a motion urging party leadership to reinstate Hishammuddin, its former chief.

In his speech at the meeting, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state Umno leadership would escalate the resolution to the party’s top decision-makers.

“I’ve been informed that a motion was tabled urging the leadership to consider reinstating him (Hishammuddin). As state Umno chairman, I will bring this resolution to the highest level,” he said.

Hishammuddin was suspended from Umno for six years beginning Jan 27, 2023.
