Teen boy charged with killing mum and brother

MELAKA: A 17-year-old boy was charged at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court today with the alleged murder of his mother and elder brother, and for injuring his younger brother.

For the first and second charges, the teenager is accused of murdering his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old brother in the Melaka Tengah district between 5am and 5.30am on June 12.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years.

If not sentenced to death, the offender may also be subject to not less than 12 strokes of the cane.

No plea was recorded when the charge was read out in Mandarin by the court interpreter, as the murder charges fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

For the third charge, the teenager is accused of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to his 13-year-old younger brother using a folding knife at the same location, date and time.

He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, a fine or whipping upon conviction.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to this charge, Bernama reported.

No bail was offered.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani set July 24 for the next mention of the case.

On June 12, the media reported that a female teacher and her eldest son had died, while her youngest son was seriously injured, believed to have been stabbed by her second child at their home.
