RM100k goes missing from retired teacher's bank account


JERTIH: A retired teacher here lost RM115,003 after falling victim to a phishing scam.

Besut OCPD Supt Azamuddin Ahmad@Abu said the 56-year-old man realised that the money in his bank account had decreased when he attempted to make a withdrawal at a bank branch in Jertih on Monday (June 16) night.

"The victim was shocked to find that his account balance was only RM130,015.18, whereas the last known balance was over RM245,000.

"Upon checking his bank statement, he discovered 14 unauthorised transactions even though he claimed he had never clicked on any suspicious links or made any banking transactions," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 18).

He added that investigations are ongoing and advised the public to never click on links received from unknown individuals and to be cautious of advertisements on social media.- Bernama
