Man killed by drunk foreign workmates

KOTA KINABALU: A man attending a Hari Raya AidilAdha eve prayer was stabbed to death following a misunderstanding with some workmates.

In the 10pm attack on Friday, the victim was attending the Takbir Raya programme at an estate workers’ quarters compound in Kinabatangan when three men confronted him.

Kinabatangan OCPD Supt D. Ravi said it is learnt that the three men, all immigrants, were drunk at the time.

“Based on information given by the victim’s nephew, who lodged a report at 4.40am the next day, the three men attacked the victim, but he managed to run into his quarters,” he said.

The weapon-wielding assailants ran after their target, breaking the window before climbing in to attack the man, he said.

Supt Ravi said the man had stab wounds in his chest and back area, which is believed to have contributed to his death.

“When he was stabbed, he was said to have managed to call out for help before collapsing in a drain nearby,” he said.

Other workers helped take the injured man to the Lahad Datu Hospital, however, he died on the way there.

Following this incident, two men, aged 46 and 30, who had no documents were nabbed, while another person is still at large, said Supt Ravi.

A 17cm-long knife believed to have been used in the attack was also seized, he said.
