CYBERJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has dismissed claims on social media that Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders met on Tuesday (July 21).
The Barisan chairman said he had no knowledge of any such meeting, reiterating that the coalition remained committed to the unity government until the 16th General Election.
"I don't know anything about it. I checked, including with the Home Minister and through my sources, and there was no such meeting. I know nothing about it," he told reporters after the 104th Immigration Day celebration here on Tuesday (July 21).
Social media posts claimed that Barisan, Perikatan, GPS and GRS leaders were expected to hold a joint press conference at 2pm.
However, the posts, which cited unnamed sources, did not state the purpose of the purported press conference.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said the party's position remained in line with the resolution adopted at the Umno general assembly.
"That is our position and the resolution we brought to the general assembly. There is no body higher than the general assembly, and we fully respect its decision.
"So there is no need for anyone to worry," he added.
