Papar man electrocuted while picking mangoes

KOTA KINABALU: A man died from electrocution while trying to get some mangoes from his tree at Kg Bambangan in Papar near here, on Sunday (June 8) evening.

The victim, identified as Ahajah Abdul Musa, 42, was said to have climbed the mango tree and used a metal rod to poke the fruits.

It is believed that the metal rod hit the nearby electric line, causing him to be electrocuted.

Papar Fire and Rescue Station chief Rozlan Osman said they received an emergency call at around 3.01pm.

"When our personnel arrived at the scene, the victim, who was still on the tree, was already unconscious," he said.

He added that Sabah Electricity officials shut down the power while rescue efforts were underway, and firemen climbed the tree using a ladder to carry Ahajah down.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Health officials, said Rozlan.

The victim was handed over to the police for further action, and operations at the site concluded at 4.29pm, he said.
