Man killed due to a misunderstanding with colleagues

KOTA KINABALU: A man attending a Hari Raya Aidiladha eve prayer was stabbed to death following a misunderstanding with several workmates in Kinabatangan.

In the 10pm incident on Friday (June 6), the victim was attending the Takbir Raya programme at an estate workers’ quarters compound when three men confronted him.

Kinabatangan OCPD Supt D. Ravi said the three men, all immigrants, were believed to be drunk.

“Based on information given by the victim’s nephew in a police report lodged early the next day, the suspects suddenly lunged at the victim but he managed to run into his quarters.

"The weapon-wielding men ran after the victim, broke the window before climbing in to attack him," he said on Monday (June 9).

Supt Ravi said the victim had stab wounds in his chest and back, which are believed to be the cause of death.

“When the victim was stabbed, he managed to shout for help before collapsing in a drain nearby,” he added.

Others who saw the injured man brought him to the Lahad Datu Hospital but he died on the way.

Following this, two suspects, aged 30 and 46, were nabbed while another person is still at large.

A 17cm-long knife, believed to be used in the attack, was seized.

In another incident in Tawau, a 44-year-old man was arrested for hitting his 60-year-old neighbour on his head with a padlock on Saturday (June 7).

The victim was walking down the stairs at the Sri Balung flats when he was suddenly hit on his head with a hard object by the suspect.

The man then fled the scene.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the victim went back to his house to get help from his wife, who called the police and an ambulance.

“The suspect was arrested in the same area later. A padlock, believed to be used in the attack, was seized,” he said in a statement on Monday (June 9).

ACP Jasmin said the suspect will be investigated for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or a dangerous object.
