PUTRAJAYA: The installation of platform screen doors will be made a priority at all train stations to prevent unwanted incidents, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said such doors have already been installed at newer MRT stations as well as retrofitted to the KL Monorail line.
“But they have not been installed at several stations along the Ampang LRT line yet. I have requested (service operator) Prasarana (Malaysia Bhd), to implement this.
“However, installing doors at all stations will incur major costs, and additional budget is needed.
“We are making this a priority to enhance security at all stations,” he told a press conference at his ministry here yesterday.
Asked if there was a timeline for the installation, the minister said Prasarana was making the necessary preparations.
“It all boils down to the budget,” he said.
Regarding the incident at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station, Loke said closed-circuit TV footage will be handed over to the police.
He said that when an object falls onto the track, train services usually halt.
“Unfortunately, the victim fell just as the train arrived. It is a very tragic incident.
“Now, we want to improve things and have platform doors installed,” he said following the tragic incident in which a foreigner fell onto the track on Tuesday evening.
On Feb 22, a train struck a blind man at the Titiwangsa LRT station after he fell onto the tracks.
