King appoints Muhammad Shahrul Ikram as Malaysia's new ambassador to the US


PETALING JAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, has presented the Letter of Credence to the new Malaysian Ambassador to the United States, Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob.

"The letter was presented during a ceremony held at Istana Negara on Tuesday (June 3)," said the Foreign Affairs Ministry's communication and public diplomacy division in a statement.

Throughout his service at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Muhammad Shahrul Ikram held roles as deputy secretary-general (bilateral affairs), director-general of the Asean-Malaysia National Secretariat during Malaysia's Asean chairmanship in 2015 and as undersecretary of the multilateral political division.

The ministry noted his previous diplomatic assignments in Malaysia's missions in Vienna, Austria; Washington D.C., USA; and Beijing, People's Republic of China.
