Couple killed in Kuala Krai crash buried in JB

JOHOR BARU: The remains of a married couple killed in a collision involving an express bus and a car along Jalan Kuala Krai-Gua Musang in Kelantan on Friday (May 30) were laid to rest Sunday at the Kassim Noor Muslim cemetery in Kampung Sungai Danga here.

The remains of Mohamad Faris Kamaludin, 24, and Nur Atikah Najihah Mohd Shah Penilzain, 18, were transported from Kuala Krai to Surau Darul Akhirah at Rumah Pangsa Awam Larkin for funeral prayers before being buried around 10am.

Nur Atikah Najihah's mother, Nurul Ain Abdul Rahim, 39, who also died in the crash, was buried at the Kampung Jambu Merah Muslim cemetery in Kota Baru at about 2.30pm Saturday.

In the 11.20am accident, the couple’s hatchback car collided with an express bus in Kampung Sungai Sam.

The victims were travelling from Johor Baru to attend the solemnisation ceremony of Nurul Ain's younger brother, Muhd Syafiq, 24, in Besut, Terengganu.

Mohd Shah Penilzain Mohamed Said, 45, father of Nur Atikah Najihah, said she was a loving and kind person.

"I received the call at 5pm while I was on my way home from work in Putrajaya. I was at a loss for words, I felt weak and helpless. Even now, I still don't feel strong, but I have come to terms with her passing," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Faris' father, Kamaludin Abdullah, 52, said the family was devastated by the loss of their third of seven children.

"It's a great loss to our family. I don't even know how to describe our sorrow. I was heartbroken during the journey to claim the body; his mother even fainted. Still, we accept his passing.

"This was the first time he drove such a long distance to Kelantan. I was informed that he finished work at 11.30pm and an hour later told his mother that he would be heading to Kelantan," he said. - Bernama
