JOHOR BARU: PKR must continue its efforts to fight for the rights of all Malaysians and uphold equality among races, say delegates at the party congress.
Mohd Yusof Ahmad, a representative from Melaka, said the party must remain consistent in addressing inequality.
"As a party, we must make sure that no one is left behind. Children everywhere, whether they are living in Felda settlements, longhouses or flats in urban areas, should have equal access to education, job opportunities and support," he said.
He added when speaking during the PKR National Congress on Saturday (May 24) that the party has always stood by the principle of equality for all, not privilege for a particular group.
"Malaysia is one country. It is not divided into two different darjat (social classes), nor is it three separate castes, or fragmented racial identities," he said.
Echoing a similar sentiment was Johor representative V. Shamala, who delivered a speech titled 'Unity through Social Equality'.
"Malaysia is made up of various races, and in a country with such diversity, social equality is a basic need to maintain harmony and long-term unity. Inequality breeds dissatisfaction, and that can lead to conflict among races," she said.
She urged the party to continue championing equal opportunities for all, regardless of social class, race or geographical location.
"This includes ensuring all Malaysians are able to enjoy equal work, training and educational opportunities," she said.
