PKR Congress begins today

JOHOR BARU: A total of 32,030 PKR delegates will cast their votes today to elect 75 office bearers for the 2025–2028 term, says PKR central election committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

She said 9,029 delegates will vote in person, while the remaining delegates will cast their votes online.

Dr Zaliha said 251 candidates are contesting for the 75 positions in the party elections, which will be held from 8am to 5pm.

“There are two voting centres in Johor, as well as in Sabah and Sarawak,” she said during a special media briefing here yesterday.

Delegates will be voting to elect members of the Central Leadership Council (MPP), the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Leadership Council and the Wanita Leadership Council.

Dr Zaliha added that nominations include 104 candidates for the MPP, 85 for the AMK, and 62 for the women’s wing.

When asked about candidate campaigning, she said the committee had issued warnings and taken action, including removing campaign banners from voting centres.

The nomination process saw Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returned unopposed as PKR president.

The deputy president’s post will see a straight contest between Nurul Izzah Anwar and incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who also serves as the Economy Minister.

Twelve candidates are vying for the vice-president posts, including four incumbents: Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad; Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang; Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun; and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the Finance Minister, is the sole candidate for the AMK chief post.

The PKR Wanita chief post will see a one-on-one contest between Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.

The PKR national congress, including the AMK and Wanita congresses, is scheduled to take place until Saturday.
