First day of road closure dry-run goes smoothly, says KL traffic cops

KUALA LUMPUR: The first day of a two-day dry-run for road closures and diversions, held in conjunction with the Asean Summit, proceeded smoothly on Wednesday (May 21).

As early as 7am, officers and personnel from the KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) were on hand to safeguard the routes from Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) to Istana Negara.

KL JSPT chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said traffic on major highways remained smooth this morning.

"For the first day, the road closures started at 7am and only involved routes from KLCC to Istana Negara.

"The closures were conducted for a short time, about 10 minutes.

"The roads were closed and reopened again in stages," he said when contacted today.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the second day of the dry run on Thursday (May 22) will involve routes from hotels (where Asean leaders and delegates are staying) to KLCC.

"The routes will be closed for 30 minutes until the movement is completed.

"We hope for the public’s cooperation in ensuring the smoothness of traffic in conjunction with the Asean Summit," he said.
