Bear necessities: Animal searching for food captured in Pekan house


KUANTAN: A sun bear has been captured by after it wandered into a house in Taman Tanah Putih, Pekan here.

Pekan Civil Defence Force officer Capt (PA) Ahmad Azmi Nafiah said in the 4.30am incident on Saturday (May 17), the bear damaged several items in the house while searching for food.

"The bear is believed to be a pet that escaped from a nearby residential area," he said in a statement.

He said they received an emergency call at 8.36am and five APM personnel were dispatched to the scene.

"They reached the site at 8.57am and a team from the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) arrived a few minutes later," he said.

He added that the Perhilitan team shot tranquiliser dart at the bear to subdue it before taking it back to Kuantan Perhilitan. – Bernama
