Ah long asks woman to send ‘nudes' to secure RM3,000 loan

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman was forced to send nude photos of herself to secure a "loan" from loan sharks.

For 27-year-old "K," she turned to loan sharks to pay her car loan.

She found a moneylender on social media and asked for a loan of RM3,000 but was told to pay fees amounting to around RM1,000.

However, she was still refused the money and was told to send nudes of herself to get the promised sum.

At a press conference by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, K said that even though she had sent the photos, she was still refused the money.

"Now they are asking for more or else they will send the photos to my family," she said at Wisma MCA on Tuesday (May 13).

Another victim, who went by Chan, said that he borrowed money from 14 loan sharks to help fund his online business.

"I had already settled 12 with the help of family members. But the remaining two are demanding way more than what was borrowed," the 23-year-old said.

He added that he had only borrowed around RM20,000 in total from all the loan sharks but had paid around RM49,000 back.

A third victim, 35-year-old Tan, said that she has been forced to disown her brother after he continuously borrowed money for his debts.

She said that the brother had also used the family’s home as the main address when he dealt with the loan sharks even though he had stopped living there years ago.

"My family cannot afford to pay any more. I wish to disown him publicly," she said.

Chong added that the victim's brother has also met with him recently.

"He came to my office to help urge his family to settle his debts. I told him to get out of my office after that," he said.

All cases are still being monitored by Chong, who added that legal aid will be given if needed.
