Toddler allegedly suffers seizure after left untreated for 11 hours at Melaka hospital

MELAKA: A thorough investigation has been ordered into claims that a 22-month-old girl suffered a seizure after she was left unattended at a public hospital here despite waiting for 11 hours.

Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the directive was conveyed to Melaka Hospital on Monday (May 12).

"I contacted the hospital director to investigate claims the child did not get urgent treatment when she was referred to the hospital on May 10," he said.

Ngwe, who is currently in Pekanbaru, Indonesia on an official visit, said he came across the claims in a viral video.

In a Facebook post, the baby's 27-year-old mother claimed she arrived at the Emergency Department of Melaka Hospital at 2.30pm on Saturday (May 10).

"When we arrived at the hospital, the nurse only took a blood sample and then left my 22-month-old baby unattended, even as her temperature rose to 38, 39 and eventually 40 degrees Celsius.

"I kept asking for help but the only response I got was to wait – until my baby suffered a seizure at around 1am on Sunday (May 11)," she wrote in the post with the video.
