SHAH ALAM: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says that the memories of his late mother remain vivid even as he approaches 100 years of age, reports Sinar Harian.

The Malay language daily reported that Dr Mahahtir had said, in a video posted to his Facebook page on Sunday (May 11), that his late mother, Wan Tempawan Wan Hanapi, had passed away in 1965 when he was 40 years old.

"Although I am nearly 100 years old, my memories of my mother have never faded," he said in the video, which was simply caption, "Happy Mother's Day".

Mother's Day was celebrated on Mother's Day.

Dr Mahathir expressed that his mother's love and teachings have significantly shaped the values within him to this day.

"My mother instilled many values that shaped who I am. Her advice, which I hold on to until today, was to always be moderate and not to boast," he added.

He further stated that every word and prayer from a mother serves as a guide and protection for her children.

"Such is the heart and sentiment of a mother, not only raising her child but also shaping their soul and life values. Their words serve as guidance, and every prayer becomes a shield," he said.

Dr Mahathir also expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices of today's mothers who strive to balance earning a living and educating their children.

"Today's mothers sacrifice their feelings, balancing time between earning a living and educating their children. These children are very fortunate to receive a mother's love. A mother is the courage behind a struggle," he stated.

He noted that a mother's strength is woven with unconditional love.

"A mother is also a strength woven with love. For those who have passed, we offer prayers for their peace and tranquility. Rest, your struggle is over.

"For those who are still here, continue the struggle," he said.
