Police exploring staged abduction theory

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are not ruling out the possibility that Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh staged her abduction.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the investigation is still ongoing and the possibility that she had staged her abduction is being explored.

“It is one of the angles in our investigation. We will conduct a thorough investigation to rule out the possibilities,” he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters yesterday.

“There was no scuffle as the victim had followed her abductors’ instructions,” he added.

Asked whether police believe the victim was still in the country, he said immigration records showed she is still in Malaysia.

“However, she might also have been taken out using illegal routes. We are using all our resources to track her down,” he added.

Comm Rusdi said the police might call up Pamela’s three children and other individuals in Singapore as witnesses to assist the investigation.

So far, the police have recorded the statements of 16 individuals, including the victim’s husband, he said.

Comm Rusdi said the police will also look into the divorce proceedings between the victim and her husband.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation, so we will look at the circumstances of their divorce,” he said.
