International smuggling syndicate dismantled in Limbang

LIMBANG: An international smuggling and wildlife trafficking syndicate was dismantled following a joint operation in Sarawak’s Limbang Division.

Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said that the operation - named Ops Khazanah - ran from May 1 to 3 and involved Special Branch personnel from the state police contingent.

The Corporation said in a Facebook post on Thursday (May 8) that nine people were arrested in Ops Khazanah.

"The operation resulted in the seizure of various contraband items, including agarwood, hornbill feathers, bear bile and claws, pangolin scales, homemade firearms, ammunition and cash in multiple currencies," it said.

It added that it is appreciative of the police’s commitment and expertise in combating environmental crime, particularly those involving protected wildlife.

The SFC urges the public to report any suspicious or illegal wildlife-related activities through its hotlines; Kuching: 019-8859996, Sibu: 084-349455, Bintulu: 086-339842, and Miri: 019-8290994.
