Two opposition members appointed to anti-corruption committee

KUALA LUMPUR: Two representatives from the opposition are among the three new members appointed to the Special Committee on Corruption.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the appointment of Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz from PAS and Langkawi MP Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah from Perikatan Nasional, alongside Senator Datuk Seri Profesor Emeritus Dr Awang Sariyan, to serve Special Committee on Corruption for three years.

Anwar expressed hope that the appointment of these Special Committee on Corruption members will bolster public confidence in the government's efforts to enhance integrity and governance.

"This aligns with the aspirations of the Madani government, which emphasises transparency and accountability in the country's administrative system.

"The committee plays an important role in advising the Prime Minister on various aspects related to corruption issues and examining the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Annual Report," he said in a statement on his official Facebook page on Monday (May 5).

Anwar highlighted the appointment's alignment with the aspirations of a Civil Malaysia, prioritising transparency and accountability.

Anwar shared photos of the appointment letter-handing over ceremony, witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the Parliament Building.

The appointees will serve from April 25, 2025, to April 25, 2028.
