JPJ detains lorries for excessive loads, refusal to comply with officers in road safety campaign with cops

PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) joint campaign with the police to improve road safety has so far detained two lorries and their drivers.

Senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the drivers refused to cooperate with enforcement officers while their vehicles carried excessive loads.

Muhammad Kifli added that the detained lorries have been sent to the JPJ enforcement station in Semenyih for further action.

"This is part of a broader effort to combat rogue behaviour and traffic violations among lorry operators.

"Our collaboration with the police is essential in ensuring the safety of road users.

"We cannot allow anyone to challenge the rule of law by acting in a rogue manner," he said in a statement on Monday (April 28).

He added that JPJ's collaboration with the police represented a concerted effort to address public concerns about the risks of accidents involving heavy vehicles in Malaysia.

"JPJ also cooperates with other departments, such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Public Works Department and others to tow heavy vehicles that refuse to cooperate for weighing due to excessive load offences," he said.

Muhammad Kifli said the firm approach is in line with the Transport Minister’s directive not to compromise with anyone neglecting road safety.

Muhammad Kifli called on all commercial vehicle operators and drivers to fully cooperate with JPJ officers, especially when instructed to weigh their vehicles.

"Failure to do so can lead to significant penalties under the Land Public Transport Act 2010."

He also urged the public to report any dangerous lorry drivers or vehicles through JPJ's official channels.

"Community engagement is vital in maintaining road safety," he added.
