Penang water supply back to normal by Monday, says CM

BUTTERWORTH: The 23 projects by the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) under the scheduled water disruption plan have been completed, and water supply to all affected parts will be back to normal on Monday (April 28) morning, says Chow Kon Yeow.

"Despite the challenges faced during the pipe connection projects over the Perai river due to high tide, it was finally completed at 1.48pm on Sunday (April 27) due to the hard work of the corporation's team," said the Penang Chief Minister in a Facebook post on Sunday (April 27).

"At this moment, PBAPP's team is testing and releasing air trapped in the pipeline to ensure water supply to the users is smooth," he said.

He added it would take some time for those living at the fringes of the water grid to have running taps again as trapped air must be released before water flows again.

The scheduled water shutdown began at 10pm on Friday (April 25), affecting supply to over 1.4 million residents.

Water supply returned to about 40% of affected areas at 10pm on Saturday (April 26).
