Ayer Kuning polls: Perikatan's Abd Muhaimin accepts voters' decision

TAPAH: Perikatan Nasional's candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek has accepted the outcome of the Ayer Kuning by-election.

The Tapah PAS chief said the decision reflected the wishes of the people.

"First of all, I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to contest in this by-election.

"I would also like to thank the leadership of Perikatan Nasional for trusting me to represent the coalition in Ayer Kuning, as well as all the voters who supported us," he told reporters at the Kompleks PAS Tapah on Saturday (April 26).

Barisan Nasional's Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir polled 11,065 votes and won by a 5,006 majority.

Abd Muhaimin Malek and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia, polled 6,059 and 1,106 votes respectively.

There were 289 spoilt votes.

When asked if he would contest again in the future, Abd Muhaimin said he would if the party leadership gave him the opportunity.

"If given another mandate by the leaders, I will continue to fight…we entered this contest to compete for good.

"I hope Mohamad Yusri will do what he needs to do for the people," he said.

The Ayer Kuning by-election was called following the death of its incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February.
