Pulau Gaya resident finds newborn left at doorstep


KOTA KINABALU: An islander finds a baby abandoned at his doorstep in a village on Pulau Gaya, just off the city here.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the incident occurred at about 5.30am on Friday (April 25).

He said the man took the baby into his home and informed the village chief of Kg Lok Urai, who then reported the discovery to the Pulau Gaya police station.

The baby was thought to be recently born and in good health. He was taken to the hospital for additional medical evaluations and monitoring.

ACP Kasim stated that the police are currently searching for the individual responsible for abandoning the child and encouraged anyone with information to reach out to the police.

He said police were investigating a case under Section 317 of the Penal Code.

ACP Kasim thanked the villagers for promptly reporting the baby dumping incident.
