MMEA disposes of over RM67,000 worth of syabu

MELAKA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Melaka and Negri Sembilan has disposed of RM67,400 worth of syabu-type drugs.

The narcotics were seized during several enforcement operations last year.

Acting MMEA director for Melaka and Negri Sembilan, Maritime Lt Norrimi Hassan, said the disposal was carried out under controlled procedures at Bukit Rambai here.

"The full incineration process took around eight hours until the materials were completely reduced to ash.

"The (seizures and disposal) were part of MMEA's ongoing commitment to combating cross-border crime, particularly drug smuggling through the nation's waters,” he said on Friday (April 25).

Lt Norrimi said the ash from the incineration would be turned over to an authorised company and buried under the guidelines in place to ensure that it does not negatively impact the environment.

“This programme was not only about the elimination of drugs but also the successful collaboration between the MMEA and other enforcement agencies, as well as the local community, in efforts to safeguard national maritime security.

"This action also signifies a firm step by the MMEA in tackling smuggling activities," he added.
