PUTRAJAYA: In a move to enhance transparency and tackle integrity issues, the Home Ministry will acquire 600 body-worn cameras for Immigration Department officers starting April 28, announced Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The initiative, driven by a directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, comes after receiving reports from the Immigration Department’s director-general.

“The Prime Minister wants body-worn cameras to be used.

“As soon as I was informed by the director-general, I instructed the ministry’s secretary-general to expedite the process,” Saifuddin Nasution said during the ministry’s Hari Raya celebration yesterday.

“Once the cameras are rolled out, God willing, we can resolve more integrity-related issues,” he added.

Saifuddin Nasution noted that Anwar has consistently stressed the need for professionalism within law enforcement agencies, particularly the police force.

The Immigration Department’s upgrade follows a broader nationwide rollout of body-worn cameras, with over 7,000 units deployed across 157 police district headquarters and 640 police stations this year.

The Road Transport Department has also introduced 100 body-worn cameras for enforcement officers.

In another update, Saifuddin revealed that starting in June, manual immigration counters at most airports across Malaysia will be replaced with autogates to reduce congestion.

“Travel will be much smoother and quicker with autogates in place,” he said.

Highlighting recent achievements, Saifuddin Nasution shared that during a ministerial awards ceremony on Wednesday, he conveyed Anwar’s heartfelt gratitude to Home Ministry personnel for their service during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“The Prime Minister was deeply humbled by the dedication shown.

“If we maintain this momentum, we can certainly realise his vision to see the country uplifted.”
