PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two public servants for reportedly accepting bribes to facilitate the transfer of smuggled contraband to a Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Kedah.
Both suspects, aged in their thirties and fifties, were arrested on Tuesday (April 22) and brought to the Kedah MACC headquarters in Sungai Petani.
Sources said that the duo had taken bribes worth RM4,600 to allow the contraband to be brought in for detainees.
"Investigations showed that the suspects had committed the offence between 2023 and 2024 and that 12 transactions were made, each worth between RM200 and RM650.
"Both suspects were believed to have received the bribes by putting the funds in their respective bank accounts," the source said.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail confirmed the arrest, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
