No special treatment for cop caught in nightclub raid, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: There were no double standards in the disciplinary action taken on a police officer who had been caught at a nightclub in Pandan Perdana, says Bukit Aman.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the police inspector, who was based in Kuala Lumpur as a police station chief, was remanded after a urine test showed he tested positive for drugs.

"There was no preferential treatment involved in this case. He was arrested and then remanded while we compiled the investigation paper," he said when contacted.

He added that the decision to transfer the inspector to Penang was only made after the investigation paper had been forwarded to the Attorney General's Chambers.

He also explained that the inspector will be in a "less-active" role in Penang as the police await further instructions.

"If they instruct us to charge him, we will do so without hesitation," he said.

"Disciplinary action as well as stern legal action awaits those who intentionally commit crime, be it civilians or members of the police force.

"Warnings have been made in the past, and advice has already been given to all our personnel. Those who break the law will face the consequences," he said.

Previously, a 43-year-old police officer was recently caught during a raid in Pandan Pardana.

He tested positive for drugs, including ketamine.
