KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, emphasised the importance of integrity and trust within the Malaysian Army during his meeting with the newly appointed Army Chief, General Datuk Azhan Md Othman.
The meeting took place at Bukit Tunku Palace on Wednesday (Jan 7), following Azhan’s official appointment as the 31st Army Commander on Jan 1.
During the audience, Sultan Ibrahim stressed that corruption poses a severe threat to the strength and credibility of the national defence forces. He insisted that all army personnel must uphold high standards of integrity and that any abuse of power or misconduct would not be tolerated.

"As the Supreme Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces, I want to remind you that leadership with integrity must begin at the highest levels," the King stated. He expressed the expectation that General Azhan would serve as a role model in promoting clean, transparent, and accountable governance within the Army.
Sultan Ibrahim emphasised the need for the army to maintain its reputation as a respected, trusted professional force capable of defending the country's sovereignty and security. He reiterated his concerns about the influence of ‘middle persons’ or agents in the Defence Ministry, asserting that their presence undermines the integrity of the military.
