PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) officially established a Malaysian Field Hospital (HMM), via the Humanitarian Aid Operation (Op Starlight III) on April 21, in Myanmar’s Sagaing district – an area most affected by the April 17 earthquake.
The HMM, which is also managed by the Op Starlight III team, is a level two field hospital with a capacity of 20 beds.
It is equipped with facilities such as wards, an operating room, intensive care unit, radiology and a laboratory, offering general surgery and orthopedics.
A level two field hospital is capable of conducting various critical treatments, including surgical procedures and comprehensive patient care.
It is also able to conduct two surgeries simultaneously.
Additionally, the Op Starlight III Level Two HMM provides outpatient clinic services, which are expected to cater to approximately 80 to 100 outpatients from the surrounding community.
This service is also supported by three medical officers from Sagaing Hospital.
Present at the opening were Sagaing region chief minister Myint Naing and Yangon Special Operations Bureau region commander Lieutenant General Thet Pon, to show support and assess if the Op Starlight III Team requires additional assistance.
Earlier, on April 19, Myanmar state administration council chairman senior general Min Aung Hlaing, visited the preparations for the HMM’s operations, to acknowledge and show commitment from the Myanmar government for Malaysia’s efforts.
Since its official opening, the HMM has received a continuous stream of patients from the surrounding areas, with some being referred by Sagaing Hospital.
The Op Starlight III Team successfully conducted its first surgery on April 21.
Local residents expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s initiative in establishing the HMM, as it is important to those affected by the recent disaster.
