PETALING JAYA: Film industry players should open Employees Provident Fund (EPF) accounts and make contributions for their workers, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He also urged them to contribute to the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) to protect their employees.
He said there is ongoing collaboration between the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and the Federation of Film Associations of Malaysia (Gafema) to see this done.
"Film industry practitioners, regardless of their field, should take the opportunity to have an EPF account, and we also want them to be protected in terms of safety through PERKESO.
"Engagement sessions, especially with Finas and Gafema, will continue in the future," he told reporters on Tuesday (April 22) after the Finas Hari Raya Muhibah Celebration here, which was also attended by Finas chairman Datuk Hans Isaac.
Fahmi, the PKR information chief, also declined to comment on the agenda for Wednesday's (April 23) central leadership council meeting to be chaired by party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"Ask me tomorrow," he said when pressed for details.
After the division-level elections last weekend, several candidates complained about the integrity of the voting system.
Fahmi, who retained his position as PKR Lembah Pantai division chief unopposed, also declined to comment on criticisms from PKR veteran Hassan Abdul Karim, the Pasir Gudang MP.
"Pak Hassan has many views; he has the right to express them.
"That's my comment," he said.
