Polluting Kubang Pasu charcoal factory ordered to stop work


ALOR SETAR: A factory producing charcoal using coconut shells in Kubang Pasu has been imposed with an equipment operation detention (POK) order by the Environment Department for causing air pollution and public nuisance.

Its Kedah director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the action was taken under Section 38 (1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act (EKA) 1974 following a complaint received on Friday (April 18) regarding air pollution caused by the factory.
