IPOH: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has issued a stern warning to “tontos” (informants) who have been threatening Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers, especially during operations involving heavy vehicles.

Loke stressed that JPJ would never compromise or bow to any threats posed by “tontos”, who are allegedly hired by heavy vehicle operators.

“I want to make it very clear that JPJ officers are authorised enforcement personnel of the government. Anyone who challenges them is essentially challenging the laws of this country.

“These officers are carrying out their duties and will continue to do so bravely, without fear or favour,” he said at a press conference after attending the 79th JPJ anniversary celebration here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Also present were Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Loke said that since JPJ had intensified enforcement operations and applied stricter laws on heavy vehicles, certain parties had shown discontent over the move.

However, he said the government bore the responsibility of ensuring road users’ safety, particularly with the rising number of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles.

Earlier, Loke announced that the KPP01 module for motorcycle and car licences would be integrated and implemented effective Aug 1 this year.

He said this would enable candidates to sit for only one theory class, adding that the improvement is expected to save cost and reduce the time taken to obtain a driving licence.

“The KPP01 module for motorcycles and cars were previously separate, and have been updated into a single learning module to provide additional emphasis on safe driving,” Loke said in his keynote address at the event.

He said the measure was part of JPJ’s service delivery improvement, which includes the MyJPJ app that allows summons payments using TnG e-wallet.

“JPJ will also introduce a new official portal in line with modernisation and innovation efforts, using the latest technology and incorporating a minimalist and neat design.

“It will also introduce an additional channel for vehicle registration number bids – the JPJeBid Mobile – that will use the latest technology, seamless and user-friendly,” he said.

Loke added that JPJ would issue a special registration number series – A (number) A – in conjunction with the department’s 79th anniversary.

He said bids opened on the JPJeBid Mobile for five days starting yesterday until 10pm on April 23. The results will be announced on April 24.
