Anwar brings grandkids to office after they complain he's seldom home

SHAH ALAM: In a Facebook post Sunday (April 20), Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said his grandchildren had complained about why he is rarely home.

"They don't understand that serving the country is not easy," the Prime Minister added in his post, which also included several photographs of him and his grandchildren during the visit.

To give them an idea, Anwar brought his grandchildren along to his office to let them see him at work.

He said the visit was an effort to help them understand the demands of his duties as the country's leader.

"As a result, I brought them to the office to see me at work," he said simply, in a casual tone.

Malay language daily Sinar Harian reported that the post attracted the attention of many Internet users who were touched by the personal side of a leader who is also a grandfather.

Most praised Anwar's attitude of still making time for family despite the heavy responsibilities he bears as Prime Minister.

His action was also seen as symbolic, indicating that a leader is also an ordinary human being who faces personal challenges and concerns.

In November 2024, his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, posted a 17-second video showing the Prime Minister playing with his grandchildren at their home, Sinar Harian also reported.

In the video, Anwar is seen spending time with his grandchildren on an inflatable trampoline, even though he attended three official events at the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) on the same day.
