Negri cops nab eighth suspect in teen kidnapping case


SEREMBAN: Police have arrested an eighth suspect to assist in investigations into the kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl here on April 10.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the male suspect who is in his 20s was arrested in Klang, Selangor around 3.30pm on Thursday (April 17).

"Earlier today (April 18), we obtained an order to remand him for two days," he said.

The suspect is being probed under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961.

On Monday (April 14), three local men and three women were remanded for 14 days in relation to the same case. The six were aged between 20 and 31.

The seventh suspect, a woman in her 50s was arrested in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur around 1pm on April 16. She has also been remanded for 14 days.

On Monday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director (Intelligence/Operations), Datuk Fadil Marsus, said that a man, believed to be involved in the case, was also shot dead in a confrontation with police in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, in the early hours of the morning.

He had said that police tracked down the 21-year-old local suspect on Jalan Bayu Tinggi, Klang, before he attempted to flee.

Fadil said that the suspect was believed to be among those involved in the kidnapping of the victim and had demanded a ransom of RM2mil from the victim's family.

He said that the girl's family had paid RM280,000, along with some jewellery, and the victim was released the following day (April 11) in Sendayan.
