A MAN from Marang, Terengganu, made a significant life change when he willingly closed his profitable welding workshop to pursue his passion for crafting knives and spend more time with his family, Kosmo! reported.

Mohd Walid Jalaluddin Abu Osman said he became interested in the art of knife-making about 11 years ago after he became captivated by his late father Abu Osman Ibrahim’s knife collection.

Initially, it was just a side income. However, in 2018, the 37-year-old decided to dedicate himself fully to the craft. This meant closing his welding workshop, which had been running for over a decade and earning him about RM30,000 per month.

“I started my welding workshop in 2009 and while it brought in a lot of money, I had very little time for my wife, Azlina Abdullah, and our young children, aged between two and 10,” he said.

“Now, my monthly income has decreased to around RM2,500, but my heart is at peace, and I can spend more time with my family.”

Mohd Walid now operates a knife-making workshop beside his house and receives frequent orders for various types of knives.

He specialises in slaughtering knives, rugged knives, machetes and bone cleavers.

“These knives are sold for RM100 to RM400 each, depending on their type and size. Orders typically increase around Hari Raya Aidiladha for the sacrificial ritual,” he added.
