Three nabbed over Seremban machete attack


SEREMBAN: Police probing the slashing of a man at a shopping centre here have arrested three suspects and seized a machete used in the alleged attack in an operation in Port Dickson.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the suspects aged between 35 and 47 were arrested within 24 hours of the incident.

"All three were arrested around 5pm on Tuesday (April 15) and have records for criminal intimidation and drugs.

"We obtained an order to remand them for three days from the court earlier today," he said on Wednesday (April 16).

On Tuesday (April 14), a clip showing a man slashing the 40-year-old victim with a machete at the shopping centre near here went viral.

The victim, who was attacked while he was smoking and alone inside the building, managed to get away from the assailant and was saved by his friends who were in the vicinity.

He suffered injuries to both arms, his back, and his right leg, and was rushed to the hospital, where his condition was reported to be stable.

ACP Hatta said the case was being probed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and fined or caned upon conviction.

He urged witnesses to contact the district police hotline at 06-6033 222 to assist in investigations.
