A QUIET evening for the staff and patrons of an accessory shop is shattered when a man stumbles in from outside, pursued by a machete-wielding assailant.
In a viral video clip that appears to be CCTV footage, the attacker proceeds to slash the victim, who is seen frantically scrabbling away as the bystanders scatter in panic.
Both victim and perpetrator then move out of the frame while a third man follows them.
It is claimed that the incident occurred in a Seremban shopping centre.
Did this happen there as claimed?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In a statement on Tuesday (April 15), Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said a report was received at 8.15pm the previous day.
He said the 40-year-old victim was attacked at the shopping centre.
"Based on a preliminary probe, the victim was attacked while he was smoking and alone inside the building.
"A group of men suddenly ran towards the victim with one of them, armed with a machete, seen slashing him several times," he said.
ACP Hatta said the victim managed to escape and was saved by his friends who were in the vicinity.
"The victim suffered injuries to both arms, his back, and his right leg. He was rushed to the hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable," he said.
ACP Hatta said there were elements of gangsterism in the attack, and the motive is believed to be revenge.
He said police have identified several suspects and are closing in on them.
He also urged anyone with information on the case to contact investigating officer Insp Tharvin at 019-3666048 or the nearest station.
According to ACP Hatta, the case is being probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or caning, or any two of these punishments, upon conviction.
