KOTA KINABALU: More than 20 local entrepreneurs gathered at the “Market Readiness: Singapore Market” seminar on April 15.
Wendy Clare Stephen, managing director of the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore, said that local entrepreneurs were ready to expand their business into the neighbouring country.
“This seminar gave them exactly that — clarity on grants, incentives, and the step-by-step process to export to Singapore,” she said when contacted on Wednesday (April 16).
She said that seafood and bird’s nest were the top export potentials, and Singapore was seen as a launchpad for businesses that want to expand globally.
The seminar was organised by the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore, which operates under the Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry, together with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.
It was supported by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation Sabah, the Sandakan Tourist Association and the Sabah Young Business and Industry Leaders Network.
Atlas Aquaculture founder Kane McGuinn and Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association emeritus president David Tan were among the speakers at the event.
Sandakan member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee, who joined the networking lunch with stakeholders, welcomed the initiative and said it was important to see more public-private collaboration to accelerate export readiness.
Following the Sandakan session, the next seminar in the series is scheduled for Kota Kinabalu in October.
