Malaysia-China partnership can only grow stronger, says King

PETALING JAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, is confident that Malaysia’s partnership with China will grow stronger despite ongoing global geopolitical challenges.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (April 16), Sultan Ibrahim emphasised the country's commitment to deeper economic integration, stronger supply chains and industrial collaboration, improved connectivity, and the significance of mutual respect and benefit in international partnerships.

“There is great potential for Chinese companies and investors to explore opportunities here as it aligns with regional connectivity and high-quality development under China's Belt and Road Initiative,” His Majesty said.

“With strong strategic incentives and a favourable location, the Forest City Special Financial Zone within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) has emerged as one of the region’s prime investment destinations,” he added.

His Majesty also invited the Chinese government to support greater educational and cultural exchange between the two nations.

“The number of student exchanges between our countries has increased, and we aim to send more of our students to China to gain cultural knowledge alongside their studies,” he said.

“I believe language is a vital bridge in strengthening bilateral relations. To this end, I look forward to actively promoting the Sultan Ibrahim Chair of Malay Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU),” His Majesty added.

The statement followed His Majesty’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Istana

Negara on Wednesday, held in conjunction with the President’s state visit to Malaysia.
