KUALA LUMPUR: Asean and Japan can leverage each other’s strengths to share practical solutions for healthy ageing and advance sustainable universal health coverage for all, says Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Speaking at the 1st Asean-Japan Health Ministers Meeting, chaired by Malaysia here on Friday (Sept 11), Dzulkefly said both sides can combine their strengths to achieve this.
The Health Minister said the collaboration has delivered meaningful outcomes across many areas, including health, disease prevention and control, disaster health management, healthy ageing as well as improving Asean’s Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation.
“We now have a clearer platform to turn shared intent into shared action, and this is what we need to do under that very framework,” he said.
To this end, longevity, dignity, advancing healthy ageing and sustainable universal health coverage across Asean and Japan is worth fighting for,” he added.
Japan was represented by its Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Kenichiro Ueno.
The meeting is part of the 17th Asean Health Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings (AHMM 17).
