US-Malaysia trade ties to be boosted, says ambassador

KOTA KINABALU: Economic cooperation between the United States and Malaysia will continue to be strengthened, says US Ambassador Edgard D. Kagan (pic).

He said that there was a lot of investment and trade between the countries that benefitted both nations.

"This cooperation is very important as it provides benefits and economic development for both countries, including Sabah," he said after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here on Tuesday (April 15).

“Malaysia does a lot of business with the United States in investments that have contributed to the economic development of Malaysia for many years, including this state (Sabah).

“We are committed to working closely with the Malaysian government to benefit the people of both countries,” he said.

It was Kagan's first courtesy call on Musa, who was appointed Governor in January.

Kagan was in Sabah with a delegation from the Oregon Zoo and NGOs working with the Sabah Wildlife Department to strengthen wildlife conservation efforts.
