Trailer fire near Menora Tunnel near Ipoh causes 9km traffic jam

IPOH: A 9km traffic snarl has developed near the Menora Tunnel after a trailer caught fire at KM265.7 southbound on the North-South Expressway.

According to the official PLUS Traffic X account, the left lane remains closed to allow for the tyres of the vehicle to be changed after the fire was extinguished by firefighters.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad stated that they received a call about the trailer, which was transporting drinking water, catching fire at about 5.15pm on Tuesday (April 14).

"The burning vehicle also caused a nearby bush to catch fire.

"The vehicle was destroyed, and we used fire retardant on the bush to extinguish the fire," he said in a statement.

"We managed to control the fire at about 3.40pm and ensured there were no other dangers before calling off the operation at about 5pm," he added.
