Ayer Kuning polls: Penang DAP will support Umno candidate

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang DAP will fully cooperate and support the campaign for the Umno candidate in Ayer Kuning.

Its chairman, Steven Sim, said the party has appointed Taiping MP Wong Kah Wong as the election director for the by-election on April 26.

"The Ayer Kuning election director has also appointed Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee as the coordinator for the Ayer Kuning by-election," he told reporters after Penang DAP Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at Chang Hua Kor Moral Uplifting Society Hall here on Sunday (April 13).

The Bukit Mertajam MP said the office of the by-election coordinator has also invited him to give a speech and help during the campaigning period.

He said the state DAP election machinery would not have a problem giving full assistance and support to the candidate during the by-election.

On the unity coalition's chances of getting Chinese votes, Sim said the state party would do its best to campaign.

"I have not been there (at Ayer Kuning), but I will get additional information from our by-election coordinator there," he said.

Earlier, about 1000 guests, including VIPs, attended the open house organised by the state DAP.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, national DAP advisor Lim Guan Eng and state DAP political education director Daniel Gooi were among the guests.

Others present were state DAP vice chairman Zairil Khir Johari, secretary Lim Hui Ying, state publicity secretary Joshua Woo and division party leaders from the unity government coalition.
