Ayer Kuning voters must choose a promising future for themselves, says Ahmad Maslan

PONTIAN: Ayer Kuning voters must be smart and choose an assemblyman who could give them a promising future, says Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Ahmad, who is also Deputy Works Minister, said the by-election offers voters an opportunity to decide whether they want to remain in the government or shift to the opposition.

“Ayer Kuning voters only have two choices. The first is to support Perikatan Nasional, turning the area into an opposition constituency.

“However, if they support him (Barisan Nasional’s candidate), Ayer Kuning will remain a government constituency.

“The choice is clear, and our hope is that the people there make the right choice,” he told the press when met at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here on Sunday (April 13).

Ahmad, who is also Umno war room secretariat chief, said Barisan’s candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir was the best among six candidates the party had shortlisted.

“Our candidate is an ustaz, former teacher, lecturer, and has served as a head of department.

“He is the best candidate, selected by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” he said.

The Ayer Kuning state by-election was called after its incumbent, 58-year-old Ishsam Shahruddin from Umno, passed away on Feb 22.

The by-election is set to see a three-way fight between Mohamad Yusri, Perikatan’s Abd Muhaimin Malek, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s secretary-general KS Bawani.
