Putra Heights inferno: 190 houses reoccupied


PETALING JAYA: A total of 190 homes that were affected by the gas pipeline explosion and fire incident in Putra Heights here have been reoccupied.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said that 12 technical agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police investigation team, were conducting investigations, recovery efforts, and assessments in the affected areas.

He mentioned that among the other agencies involved were PETRONAS, the Selangor Utility Corridor, Air Selangor, the Occupational Safety and Health Department, the Public Works Department, Subang Jaya City Council, Indah Water, Telekom Malaysia, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, National Housing Corporation Sdn Bhd, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

"As of now (Wednesday), a total of 487 affected houses have been inspected. From that number, 328 houses have been allowed to be reoccupied, and 190 houses have already been reoccupied," he told Sinar Harian on Thursday (April 10).

He added that 306 affected houses had their electricity supply restored by TNB.

Hussein also mentioned that they had received a total of 741 police reports related to the incident.

He said that Operation Gas, which entered its ninth day on Wednesday (April 9), was being carried out with 697 personnel from 18 agencies.

"The police team, including the General Operations Force (PGA), consists of 169 personnel. The PGA is still conducting 24-hour security patrols in the affected areas to ensure the safety of the victims' properties left behind," he said.

The incident on April 1 resulted in property damage estimated at RM65.4mil, including wiring costs.

The Selangor Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, previously said that the swift action of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department during the incident had successfully saved assets worth more than RM285.9mil.
