Man jailed for failing to comply with court order


SEREMBAN: A 38-year-old odd job worker was sentenced to two years in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here after he pleaded guilty for failing to comply with a restriction order.

Mohd Amirul Afizan Mat did not contest the charge after it was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.

The accused, who had been fitted with an electronic monitoring device, was charged with failing to remain in the Setul area during the restriction period from Jan 21, 2022 to Oct 2, 2024.

He was charged with committing the offence around 10pm on July 27 last year at a carwash at Taman Permai near here, under Section 15(4) Prevention of Crime Act (amended 2015) (POCA) which carries a jail term of between two and five years.

Earlier, Mohd Amirul had also pleaded guilty to another charge of damaging and throwing away the electric monitoring device at the same place and time.

He was charged under Section 15A(6) of POCA which carries a jail term of up to three years.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah then fixed May 21 to deliver judgment.
