Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 project to complete by mid-next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 (LMSB2) project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year, according to the Royal Malaysian Navy.

The Keel Laying ceremony for the project was conducted at the Istanbul Shipyard in Turkiye on Tuesday (April 8), and a Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) was chaired by Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, involving representatives of the company involved.

"The PMC is designed to monitor the management, administration, and implementation of the contract and the work progress on the LMSB2.

"The company involved also presented the progress for all three ships, which was very encouraging.

"Based on current progress, the LMSB2 is expected to be completed and launched by the middle of next year before being handed over to the navy at the end of 2027," the navy said in a statement.

The Keel Laying ceremony, officiated by Navy Chief Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain, is an important phase in the construction of a ship.

"The ceremony is a tradition in the ship construction industry, marking the start of the assembly of the ship's main block at the dock. It is a continuation of the steel cutting ceremony conducted on Dec 4 last year," the navy added.
